ARDENCAPLE 2006s progressed to the third round of the West Region Cup with a hard-fought 3-0 victory against Westerton at the weekend.

The youngsters started well and continued their dominance throughout as they kept a clean sheet for the fourth match running.

Caple opened the scoring early on after a quick ball from Dougan released Sharp who did well to shrug off the challenge of the centre-half before knocking it past the advancing keeper with a composed finish.

With Shields and Godwin dominating possession in the early stages, Caple were continually able to find space in behind the visiting defence with Westerton forced to clear the ball from their line three times in quick succession as they held on at 1-0.

The visitors began to find their feet as the first-half progressed as they searched for a way back into it with the Ardencaple defence now forced to sit deep and hold firm.

Looking to finish the first-half on a high, though, Caple hit Westerton on the break and came close to doubling their advantage after Shields’ powerful free-kick looked to be sneaking in to the bottom corner.

The Westerton keeper managed to get a hand to it but could only parry it right into Wilson’s path; with the goal at his mercy, Wilson couldn’t quite control his effort as he scuffed the rebound wide of the post as the first-half came to an end with Caple leading 1-0.

While it was a fairly open second-half with both sides happy to push forward, the second goal of the match didn’t arrive until the final 15 minutes.

Dorizon showed great energy late on to burst through a narrow gap in the Westerton defence before driving a low shot towards goal.

The visiting keeper did well to get a hand to it but Dorizon was quick to react to force it home for his side’s second.

The match was over as a contest with minutes remaining when Dorizon popped up once again to secure Caple’s passage into the third round of the cup in some style with a sublime finish from all of 18-yards.

Ardencaple return to league action this weekend as they take on Westerton once again, this time in the Paisley and Johnstone District Football League division three.

While Caple will hoping for a similar result as they look to put pressure on the three teams sitting above them in the league, they will also be hoping for a more refined attacking performance to continue their unbeaten start to the season.

Kick-off at Hermitage is 10.15am on Saturday morning – please come along and lend the boys your support.
