HELENSBURGH Amateur Swimming club swimmers competed at the 2018 West District Short Course Senior and Junior age group championships at Tollcross International Swimming Centre.

Roisin Kavanagh put in a very strong performance to bring back one gold and four silver medals while Joseph Aylward, Ethan Parsons and Finlay Martin did well to handle the pressure in their first outing at a regional level competition on an individual basis.

Roisin swam in the 12 year old age group where she secured a silver medal in both the 200m backstroke and the 200m freestyle. The youngster also qualified for the final in her remaining three events, the 100m backstroke, 100m freestyle and 200m individual medley. She came out on top in the first heat of the 100m backstroke and held onto that place in the final picking up a well-deserved gold medal. In the 100m freestyle, she again finished the heat in first place but despite knocking almost half a second from her heat time, she just missed out on gold to finish in the silver medal position. Roisin later picked up her fourth silver of the day in the 200m Individual Medley.

Strong performances were returned by the rest of the team.

Louisa Brown, swimming in the 12 year old age group, competed well in the 100m breaststroke to take a fantastic 3.58 seconds off her personal best to finish 18th place overall.

Swimming in the 12 year old age group, Joseph Aylward went on to secure a very strong personal best of 2.85 seconds and 16th place in the 100m breaststroke. Ethan Parsons, also competing in the 12 year old age group, finished 23rd in both the 100m breaststroke and the 100m butterfly.
