NEW signing Charlie Cook made an instant impact for Ardencaple’s 2006 team in their 4-0 home league win over Westerton – taking just two minutes to score on his debut.

Caple have high hopes that Charlie and Jacob Shields will form a great partnership in midfield following recent injuries to Fraser Murray and Calum Poirer – and the partnership bore fruit almost immediately when Cook was picked out by Shields on the edge of the box and swivelled before firing into the top corner of the net.

And Caple doubled their lead in 15 minutes when Shields found Cook on the halfway line, and the newest member of the squad split the visiting defence with a pass out to the right wing, where Dorizon outpaced the Westerton defence before slotting home the second.

A sliced clearance by a Westerton defender nearly gave Caple their third just before the interval, but number three wasn’t long in coming; after two fine saves by O’Rourke in the early stages of the second half, Cook released Shields down the right on 50 minutes and his first-time cross found Sharp at the back post to slam home from 10 yards.

Caple’s defence held firm against all Westerton’s attacks, and in the last minute of the game a cross from the right caused confusion in the Westerton defence and Dougan bravely nipped in ahead of the Westerton keeper to knock the ball home – completing a cup and league double against a Westerton team who had been beaten by their Caple counterparts just five days previously.

The last game for Caple’s 2006 team before the Christmas break sees the team play host to Giffnock on Saturday. Kick-off is at 10.15am.
