MEMBERS of Helensburgh Golf Club celebrated a year of success at their annual prize-giving ceremony.

Principal awards went to club champion Peter Haggarty, ladies champion Gemma Canham and junior champion Tom Barton. Other championship classes were won by Ian Porter (Peel Trophy), Alan Walker (1963 Trophy) and Maria Carling (ladies’ bronze champion).

The Tom Inglis Captain’s Day Cups were presented to Ian Porter, Alastair Cairns and Michael Stephen, while monthly medal winners were Ian Porter (Anderson Cup), David Kick (Breingan Medal), Andy Stewart (Ormond Medal) and Seniors Mid-week Trophy (John Fugler).

Arthur Tynan was awarded the Lynn McCathie Scholarship for the most promising junior player, entitling him to a year’s free subscription in recognition.

Also applauded were the club’s McIntyre Challenge team of Tom Barton, Chris Thomas, Shey Donald and Malcolm Hyatt who won this regional event in 2018.

And in a separate ceremony the ladies’ Allander League team were honoured after winning the competition for Helensburgh for the first time in 32 years.
