ALAN LATHAM’S team was officially crowned winners of Helensburgh Golf Club’s 2018 Winter League at the competition’s prize-giving dinner on Friday.

Alan’s team, comprising Alan Reynolds, Craig Stirling, Stuart Buchanan, Rob Prideaux, Michael White, John MacMillan, George Cairns, Craig MacPhee, Dave Allen, Graham Thorley and Ian Harrington, each took home a bottle of whisky and an engraved hip flash thanks to a winning total of 1,200 points, 15 clear of the runners-up, captained by Don Griffin.

John MacMillan and George Cairns won the tournament’s eclectic competition with a fantastic 58 points, with five pairs sharing second place on 56.

After-dinner speaker John McKelvie gave a very funny presentation to the 80 Winter League players present for the prize-giving.

Meanwhile, with the Winter League becoming a distant memory, a great turnout of 52 players took part in the first week of the Frostbite competition.

George Cairns was the week one winner with 24 points and a prize haul of £26, while Ian Porter, Craig McPhee, Roy Nesbitt and Alex McCallum shared second place on 23 points, each winning £6.50.

The winners of the scorecard raffle were Jamie Francis, who won a Callaway hat, and David Graham, who won three Titleist Velocity balls.

A total of £26 was added to the hole in one pot which now stands at £390.50.
