RHU Amateurs are celebrating after welcoming a new sponsor on board in the form of Helensburgh building firm Stewart and Shields.
The company bought the whole of the Amateurs’ squad polo shirts to go with the tracksuits recently added to the club’s matchday kit.
Stewart and Shields’ managing director made the presentation to Rhu manager Stewart Maule and assistant manager Stewart Fraser recently.
As well as sponsoring the club, Jim is also something of a Rhu Amateurs legend, having been part of the team which won the Scottish Amateur Cup in 1967, the highest honour in the amateur game in Scotland.
On the pitch – or rather not – Rhu’s year ended in something of a damp (and cold) squib on Saturday as the wet and windy weather forced the postponement of their final fixture of 2018 at home to Rothesay Brandane.
It was a similar story for the area’s other amateur clubs on Saturday, with Ardencaple FC’s home game against Newton Vale in the Central Scottish AFL, and Helensburgh FC’s Bobby Thomson Cup tie in Lanarkshire against Woodhead, both falling victim to the weather – though in Helensburgh’s case, they had actually reached the venue in Hamilton before the referee decided the pitch was unplayable.
