Loch Lomond Hockey Club's second team were in seventh heaven after an excellent 7-0 win away to Irvine in West District Division Four.
Loch Lomond dominated the entire match from start to finish through sheer effort and composure when required, with all the players doing a fantastic job even when they didn’t have the ball, harrying Irvine all over the pitch and getting into good positions to support their team-mates.
The midfield worked tirelessly and the defence was very strong, pressing up high inside the opposition half and shutting down the play with beautiful two-way passing, while the forwards played well and their awareness was excellent.
Irvine are a good, very physical, hockey team, but Loch Lomond have improved and matured as a team and were well worth their winning margin.
The visitors went two up within 10 minutes and never really looked like losing from then on in, using the width of the park and capitalising on upgrades and short corners.
As well as an excellent quality of play, their team spirit is fantastic at the moment, and they thoroughly deserved the win.
The roll call for the goals featured Gillian Finch (3), Jenny Tripney (2), Jane Neil (1) and Eve Howard (1).
The whole team’s work rate was phenomenal even in the driving rain and Chloe Harrison must be applauded for her quick controlled runs to the back line.
Lucy MacRae was the opposition’s player of the match, a well deserved award, while Jenny Tripney got player of the match with Gillian Finch runner-up.
Squad: Emma O’Neill, Jane Neil, Melanie Birch, Anna Currie, Anna English, Jenna Gallacher, Lucy MacRae, Kirsty Richardson, Jenny Tripney, Chloe Harrison, Elaine Wotherspoon, Gillian Finch, Eve Howard.
