LOMOND School’s S3 netball team are making their final preparations for the finals of the Scottish Schools Cup.

The girls are due to play in the ‘silver section’ finals at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility near Motherwell on Thursday, March 21.

Having opened their campaign with a comfortable win over Mearns Castle High School in the second round of the tournament, the Lomond girls’ cup run gathered pace with a 28-11 third round win against Dunfermline’s Woodmill High School.

That paved the way for a quarter-final tie against Langholm Academy, and the Lomond girls once again had the wind in their sails, winning a close match 30-25.

And the team secured their place in the final with a fine 35-25 win over Balerno High School from Edinburgh in the last four.

The semi-final started off at a fast paced, with the team focussed and zig-zagging the ball up the court, giving Lomond an early lead with Nicola Cosgrove-Clark scoring many of the points.

The attacking Lomond trio of Lucy McLean, Emily Wilson and Nicola set the pace for the match demonstrating their impressive netball skills and athleticism, putting on a strong performance.

The wings and defence worked well to put pressure on the Balerno side making it challenging during free passes and winning the ball though interceptions.

The S3s have matured as a team and developed in their performance and knowledge of the game and have impressed everyone with their commitment to the competition and the improvements they have made over the course of the season.

They have the backing of the whole school - whether in person or in spirit - for Thursday’s final, in which they’ll face Holy Cross High of Hamilton, who secured their place after a fine run which featured wins over Balfron High, Gordonstoun School and, in the semi-final, a 36-31 victory over Hawick High.
