AN EXCEPTIONAL team performance lay at the heart of an excellent afternoon’s work for Loch Lomond’s first XI on Saturday as Garnock were beaten 9-0 in the local side’s penultimate match of the season.

Loch Lomond executed their game plan with skilful passing in pairs, using the breadth of the pitch and setting an excellent tempo.

Rebecca Lightfoot opened the scoring from an early short corner, before Zoe Canty made it two and Vanessa Sabala three, the latter from a brilliant penalty flick.

Great confidence and high team spirit saw Rosie McColgan score twice before Kim McCallion rounded off the first half with her fourth and Loch Lomond’s sixth goal.

In the second half McColgan earned her hat-trick in style by successfully converting the second penalty flick of the game, before Bongi Tshabalala, on her debut, made it eight.

McCallion completed the scoring with her second and Loch Lomond’s ninth, but there was still time for a final highlight as goalkeeper Heather Smith made an exceptional save from a late Garnock penalty flick, denying the visitors a late crumb of comfort.
