YOUNG members of Helensburgh Amateur Swimming Club brought back 10 medals from the Ren 96 Graded Meet in Linwood.

The strong team of 15 swimmers, aged between eight and 13, brought home four gold medals, two silver and four bronze from the two-day meeting.

New personal best times (PBs) were set in 44 of the 56 events entered, while six swimmers secured a personal best time in all of their events – with the majority of swimmers securing at least one PB in the course of the meet.

Louisa Brown and William Peace had a fantastic weekend, securing four medals each. Louisa, swimming in the 14-year-old age group, secured gold medals and PBs in the 50m and 100m breaststroke and the 400m freestyle, and a silver medal and PB in the 100m freestyle.

William, swimming in the 13-year-old age group, secured gold and a PB in the 200m freestyle, improving his best by a significant 6.98 seconds.

He also won a silver in the 400m freestyle and bronze medals, and PBs, in the 100m breaststroke and 200m individual medley, improving his PB by 5.26 seconds in the former and a huge 11.39 seconds in the latter.

Siblings Zoe and Fergus McEwan took the medal haul to 10 with a bronze medal and PB each.

In the 10-year-old age group, Fergus made it on to the podium in the 100m backstroke, while Zoe, in the 12-year-old category, secured her medal in the 50m breaststroke.

Six swimmers recorded PBs in all their races – Lilly Boultby, Thomas Forsyth, Owen Lyell, Fergus McEwan, Zoe McEwan and Louisa Brown.

Notable PBs were secured by Zoe McEwan with a whopping 11.76-second improvement in the 50m butterfly and 6.89sec in the 100m backstroke, Michael Payne (by 9.37s in the 200m backstroke), Ethan Parson (5.94sec in the 100m individual medley) and Kara McFadyen (5.63sec in the 50m backstroke), completing a great performance all round for the Helensburgh contingent.
