HELENSBURGH showed no signs of being leg-weary as they chalked up a 5-0 win away to Glasgow University in their fourth match in seven days.

The result was never in doubt from the moment David Allan swept home from a David Sinclair cross with just two minutes on the clock.

More was to come with five minutes gone as Allan doubled the lead, this time with a close range header.

On a bowling green of a surface, Helensburgh were causing their hosts all sorts of problems, and Sinclair added a third after drifting in from the right and unleashing an unstoppable drive past the keeper.

Helensburgh’s defenders were quick to snuff out any attacking threat, and Allan rounded off a terrific first half by completing his hat-trick when he headed a Karl Johansson cross into the corner of the net.

Helensburgh took their foot off the gas slightly after the break, but were still largely able to keep the home side far enough away from goal not to trouble keeper Liam Hanson.

The Uni team’s best chance to get on the scoresheet came from the penalty spot after a rash challenge by Steven Martin inside the box, but another terrific save from Hanson kept the Helensburgh goal intact.

And in the dying minutes, Johansson secured his reward for a hard-working 90 minutes when he picked up a loose pass and advanced on goal before drilling the ball home.
