SWIMMERS from Helensburgh Amateur Swimming club travelled to the Sir Matt Busby Sports Complex, Bellshill at the weekend to take part in the Rutherglen graded meet.

A strong team of eight swimmers aged 11-14 took part, and the team did the club proud bringing back 16 medals – four gold, nine silver and three bronze.

New personal best times (PBs) were set in 25 of the 31 events entered – five swimmers secured a personal best time in all of their events, with the majority of swimmers securing at least two PBs in the course of the day.

Swimmers Fergus McEwan, Owen Lyell, Alice Cumming and Louisa Brown had a fantastic weekend securing medals in all of their events.

Swimming in the 11 year old age group Fergus secured two gold and two silver medals and one bronze; Owen secured two silvers and a bronze, and Alice secured three silver medals and a single bronze medal.

Louisa, in the 14 year old age group secured two gold and two silver medals.

Lilly Boultby, Della Smith and Michael Payne also performed really well – despite narrowly missing out on medals, all three recorded PBs in all their races.

Lilly secured four PBs, including a massive PB of 18.37s in her 200m freestyle; Della recorded three PBs with impressive improvements in the 100m and 50m breaststroke of 14.23s and 12.93s; and Michael secured strong PBs in all of his five events.

Zoe McEwan was pipped at the post in two events, finishing fourth in both, but recorded an excellent PB in her 200m freestyle of almost 11 seconds.
