CRAIGHELEN Tennis Club’s ladies’ first team had a tough afternoon against Western 4 in their latest league fixture, losing by an overall margin of seven sets to two.

At first couple Susan Bell and Sue Black had a tough game against a pair who are unbeaten in the league, and lost out 3-6, 3-6, 1-6.

Anna Scullion and Jackie Morris played well to win 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, while Sandra Juster and Barbara McCall lost 2-6, 0-6, 3-6.

The Craighelen ladies’ third team also played the Western club, this time their sixth team; in very wet conditions, they, too, lost, but by a much closer margin of five sets to four.

Amanda Byles and Kathleen Owen lost the first two sets 0-6, 4-6 but rallied well to take the third set 7-5, while Lorna Hunter and Elisabeth Sammon lost the first set 4-6, did well to win the second by 6-4, but lost the last set 1-6.

Dari Young and Julie Dodson had a good match, winning by 7-5, 3-6, 6-3.

The ladies’ 60s eam played against Glasgow University Staff and drew 3-3, with Sue Black and Jackie Morris winning 6-1, 6-3, 6-2, and Barbara McCall and Lorna Hunter, unlucky to lose their last set on the tie break as they went down 1-6, 3-6, 6-7.

The men’s 60’s team also drew their match. Playing against Strathgryffe 2, David Thorpe and Jim McGowan won 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, and John Middleton and Rob Colston lost 2-6, 2-6, 6-2.
