Athletics: Helensburgh youngsters set new PBs in Grangemouth

The U17 girls took an excellent first place overall, with Katie Flett winning the 800m race and coming third in the 1500m; Amy Court was fourth in the 100m, Jenny Hyde was fourth in the 800m and Amirah Hassan was fifth in the 1500m, recording new personal best times (PBs) in the process.

Amy and Jenny teamed up with Sophie Michie and Sarah Mitchell to take third place in the 4x100m relay.

In the U15 boys’ age group, Robert Court and Finlay Fleming recorded PBs in all their events. Robert won the high jump, was second in the shot put with a best throw of 10.12m, and set a new PB in the 100m, while Finlay was third in the long jump with 4.49m and recorded a time of 27.03 in the 200m.

Matthew Cameron was fifth in the 800m in a new PB time of 2:26.88.

Teo Dorizon joined the three HAAC boys to make up the 4x300m relay team, who were unlucky not to catch the winners in the final sprint to the line.

Lexy Kenhard was an excellent second place in the girls’ U15 hurdles in a new PB, and finished fourth in the high jump; Maddie Rooney and Rowan Mair combined with two Clydesdale athletes to make up the 4x300m relay team which took a strong second place, with Lexy and Isla McKinnon combining for a 4x100m team who took third.

In the U13 age group Alex Brown had an excellent day with a high jump of 1.44m taking first equal place – not only a new PB but the fourth best jump in his age group in Scotland this year – along with second place in the long jump.

Matthew Gall continued his run of good form in the javelin with a PB of 23.36m for second place, and finished third in the 1500m and the shot put, again setting new PBs.

Tom McClearn was fifth in the javelin, in his first time taking part in the event.

For the U13 girls, Eloise Dunn was fifth in the 75m and 150m sprints, while Holly Kenhard was third in the high jump. Both girls teamed up with Clydesdale athletes to finish fifth in the 4x100m relays.

Other athletes who set new PBs on the day but missed out on the top placings were Molly Ferguson, Teo Dorizon, Andrew McNair, Isla McKinnon, Maddie Rooney, Eva Rooney and Oliver Greetham.
