LOCAL football fans will have a rare opportunity to see two of the area's amateur teams face each other this weekend.

Rhu Amateurs will take on Helensburgh FC in a pre-season friendly at Ardenconnel Park on Saturday.

But the match promises to be slightly more than your average pre-season kickaround – because apart from local bragging rights, there will also be silverware up for grabs.

The two sides will compete for the Joshua John William Black Trophy, being presented in celebration of the recent birth of a young son to former Helensburgh captain and Rhu legend Dougie Black and his wife Rachael.

Supporters of both sides are being urged to come along and enjoy the atmosphere and the game – the match kicks off at 2pm, though Rhu's clubhouse will be open from 1pm for those who fancy a tipple.

The match will be Rhu's second, and Helensburgh's third, pre-season friendly fixture as preparations continue for the start of the clubs' new league campaigns in the Caledonian League and the Greater Glasgow Premier AFL respectively.
