MARTIAL arts students from Peak Performance Helensburgh Taekwondo attended the UKTA Scottish Open Taekwondo championships at the Ravenscraig sports facility – and brought back a very impressive medal haul after finishing seventh overall.

The extra work put on by the students at the Peak Performance facility in the town paid off in style, with the group landing three gold medals, five silvers and 10 bronzes.

Club instructor and ITF Scotland coach Steven McLaren said: “It was a great achievement considering the size of our club.

“The students love their training and are always pushing themselves.

“Their coaches were all extremely proud of them – everyone left it all on the mats giving it their all.”

The Helensburgh medal winners were as follows:

Kirsten Barrett – bronze in pattern and sparring; Kyle Crossan – silver in pattern, gold in sparring; Kiera Fairley – bronze in pattern; Scott Sabacan – gold in pattern and sparring; Charlie Callaghan – bronze in pattern; Lily Callaghan – bronze in pattern; Ross Sutherland – bronze in pattern, silver in sparring; Silvija Dubovic – bronze in pattern, silver in sparring; Max Bell – silver in sparring, bronze in special technique; Finn Lane – silver in sparring; Rachael Pullar – bronze in sparring; Carlton Brick – bronze in sparring.
