ARDENCAPLE’S 2007 team continued their winning start to the season with a 4-2 victory away to Linwood Rangers.

Caple started strong and were pressing right from the start; Taylor MacDonald’s early goal was followed by Seth Kerr’s penalty after Corey Livingston was brought down.

The half time team talk was an easy one – “more of the same” was the message to the players – and another goal from MacDonald seemed to put Caple on easy street.

However, Linwood hit back and within five minutes had reduced the gap to 3-2 and were putting Caple under severe pressure as they pushed for an equaliser.

With the unthinkable looming, however, each player stepped up his game and their efforts were rewarded when Marley Walsh’s excellent late goal made the points safe.

Caple squad: Darnell, McColl, Kerr, Fleming, MacDonald, R. Nikolic, L. Nikolic, McCutcheon, Graham, Walsh, Livingston, Butcher, Munro, Caldow.

It was a less happy story for Caple’s 2006 team, who lost 2-0 away to Neilston.

Their pre-match preparations weren’t helped by one of the cars bringing players to the game arriving late.

Ardencaple nonetheless gave a good account of themselves in the first half, and Poirier and Howie both had attempts cleared off the line.

But Caple failed to make the most of the elements and the downhill slope in the second half, and Neilston broke the deadlock with five minutes left before adding a second in the dying moments of the game as Caple pushed forward in search of an equaliser.
