LOCH Lomond’s second team produced another excellent performance in a goalless draw away to their Rottenrow Blue Sox counterparts on Saturday.

Loch Lomond started off defending high, using the width, and managed to keep the fit, well organised and experienced opposition under the cosh for most of the first half with some fast flowing passing hockey.

On two occasions during the match Loch Lomond twice had only three defenders at short corners, but they stood firm, and a goal eluded Rottenrow as half-time arrived.

The visitors’ solid defence enabled the midfield to push forward with confidence, and on the left, the home team just couldn’t get by Kara Kerr and Anna Currie, backed up by some good saves from keeper Heather Smith.

Midfield were doing their job impeccably with quick passes and some silky moves, particularly from Eilidh Hill; his pressure provided some good balls through to the forwards and Loch Lomond were unlucky not to score on a number of occasions.

It was tense in the final minutes but Loch Lomond kept their shape and cleared well. Loch Lomond used the rolling subs well and were able to seamlessly subbed on and off thanks to good squad management by coach Anne McGregor.

A really solid performance by all and something to build on for the coming matches.

Rottenrow gave their Loch Lomond ‘player of the match’ prize to Eilidh Hill, while the visitors’ own award went to Anna English for a solid performance in defence. Runner-up was Eve Howard.

Meanwhile, a combined Loch Lomond first and second team beat Rottenrow II 8-1 at home in the first round of the West District Cup on Saturday.

Vicky Perry’s shot was deflected in by Kim McCallion for the first goal early on, and Vanesa Sabala added a second after a fine team move.

Eliza Ritchie hit number three after an amazing solo run, before a short corner move set up Gillian Finch for number four just before the break.

Rottenrow pulled one back early in the second half, but that goal only inspired the hosts to move up a gear, and Perry added a fifth before Ritchie’s second, both from short corners.
