SOME fans of the Scotland national team may have struggled to raise more than a half-hearted cheer at last week's 6-0 win over San Marino at Hampden – but there was nothing but smiles to be seen from the Ardencaple FC contingent in the crowd at the National Stadium.

Caple players, coaches and officials have become regular attendees at Scotland’s qualifiers of late – and following the disappointment of September’s loss at home to Belgium, there was welcome relief for the Ardencaple party of around 100 members as Scotland eased to victory in difficult playing conditions.

Meanwhile, on a pitch rather closer to home, Caple’s 2007 team won a thrilling league clash at home to Baljaffray by the odd goal in nine.

Caple got off to the ideal start after an accurate diagonal ball from Ryan McColl, who found Rory Caldwell on the move, driving at the defence, and Caldwell slotted the ball home for the opener.

Baljaffray were not deterred by this and shortly after equalised to ensure both teams went for their half time team talk at 1-1.

Ardencaple stuck to their game plan, and came out in the second half and pressed their opponents high up the park – and received their reward soon after kick off with a quick double from Taylor MacDonald to give Caple the breathing space they needed.

More good football saw Jack Fleming advance from midfield to place the ball in the bottom corner to put Caple on easy street.

However with Caple taking their eye of the ball for the next 20 minutes the visitors were back in the game with two rapid goals to make it an nervous last 10 for the home team.

But a defence splitting pass from Jack allowed Taylor to burst through on goal and complete his hat-trick and ensure all three points stayed in Helensburgh.

Caple squad: Darnell (GK), McColl, Kerr, Fleming, MacDonald, R. Nikolic, L. Nikolic, Livingston, Caldwell, Walsh, MacEachern, McCutcheon, Trail, Caldow.
