LOCH Lomond Hockey Club’s second team returned to action in some style on Saturday with a fine 5-0 away win.

Eilidh Hill and Gillian Finch both scored twice while Elaine Wotherspoon also got her name on the scoresheet in a comprehensive win over Hillhead’s fifth XV.

Everyone was eager to play again after a long break since the team’s last fixture back in September, and in sunny but cold conditions Loch Lomond started the first half well by pressing high and dominating most of the possession.

Strikers Wotherspoon, Finch and Rachael Peacock all had attempts on goal in the early stages, while midfielders Ava Currie, Kirsty Richardson, Eve Howard, Alanna Hill, Katie Martin, Jenna Gallacher and Eilidh Hill turned over many balls and fought hard.

The opening goal came after Howard picked up possession and ran to the base line before sweeping the ball across for Hill to push it over the line.

Loch Lomond continued to press high after the restart and, on the occasions where Hillhead did manage to break through, the defensive five of Jane Neil, Caroline Lyall, Anna Currie, Kara Kerr and Anna English, managed by Anne McGregor in goal, made light work of clearing the ball back up the field.

Loch Lomond only conceded one short corner in the entire match, which proved how well the whole team pressed the ball and worked for each other.

Just before the interval Hill managed to slot another goal away to give the visitors a two goal advantage, and after an encouraging talk from captain Currie, Loch Lomond went out onto the pitch for the second half ready to continue as they had left off.

And tthough communication dipped for a couple of minutes, Alanna Hill managed a great run down the left to find Eilidh Hill on the edge of the D, and she passed to Wotherspoon who slotted the third goal away.

Loch Lomond’s pressing continued with great hit outs from the back, which were pushed further forward by the midfield to find the strikers – which is where a sweep from the left found Finch waiting on the right hand post, and she was able to deflect the ball over the line to make it 4-0.

Loch Lomond were awarded many short corners during the match, and a great set-piece from Kerr allowed Finch to connect superbly with the ball to complete the scoring.

This was a wonderful match for Loch Lomond which had many great pockets of play, lovely passes and silky one - two moves. Subs switched on seamlessly allowing the flow of play to continue all the way through.

The player of the match prize was awarded to Eilidh Hill, with Eve Howard chosen as runner-up, while Hillhead gave their Loch Lomond player of the match accolade to Jenna Gallacher.
