GARY Potter and David McCallum recorded a magnificent 54 stableford points to win the penultimate week of the Tennent’s Winter League at Helensburgh Golf Club on Sunday.

In brilliant golfing conditions and playing to winter greens, the top pair (pictured) finished two points clear of Billy Trail and substitute Gordon McConnell, standing in for Alistair McKenzie, in second place.

Dougie Singleton and John Gallacher finished third on 50 points, but having already finished in third place once, their prizes of sleeves of golf balls were presented to Craig Warrender and his partner Paul Strettle, who had a better last six score over David Graham/Colin Reid and Michael McKechnie/Neil Sloan, all having recorded recorded 48 points.

Twenty-one twos were scored, with two players achieving gross eagles on the par-four sixth hole.

Alan Bell’s team moved into the leading position in the team standings with 1,079 points, 13 points ahead of Don Griffin’s team, while Singleton and Gallacher lead by one point from Warrender and Strettle in the eclectic standings.
