DESPITE injuries and illness wreaking havoc with their preparations, Loch Lomond Hockey Club welcomed Ardrossan on Saturday ready for the fight in their West District Women’s Hockey League division one match.

But with the Lomond ladies struggling to settle in the early stages, Ardrossan capitalised to open the scoring.

Loch Lomond began to find their way, however, and refused to let their heads drop as they went in search of the equaliser, only for some last-gasp Ardrossan defending somehow managing to keep them at bay.

The away side doubled their advantage midway through the first-half after some great link up play, but, to their credit, Lomond dug in and found a way back into the match before the break.

Finally breaking down the stubborn Ardrossan defence, Lomond upped the pace with Vicky Perry expertly finishing a penalty flick to pull one back.

Lomond continued to battle in the second-half with Sophia McDermott, Eliza Ritchie, Kim McCallion and Heather Cullen forcing the visiting keeper into some top saves.

It wasn’t to be for Lomond, however as the visitors went on to add a third late on to secure the win.

The Lomond first team won’t have long to wait for revenge with the teams lining up once again this weekend.

Team: Elaine Brown, Sue Aikman, Sharon Crossan, Vicky Perry, Sophia McDermott, Vanessa Sabala, Fiona Thompson, Eliza Ritchie, Kirsten Bruce, Rosie McColgan, Bongiwe Tshabalala, Heather Cullen, Kim McCallion, Lauren McCreadie.
