A GROUP of hardy young athletes from Helensburgh AAC competed in wet and windy conditions at the recent Renfrewshire Road Race Championships at Battery Park in Greenock.

Murray Macleod took an excellent eighth place in the under 11 boys’ one-mile race, with Lewis Cameron and Angus Ritchie battling to the line together in joint 14th and Kodi Burke competing in his first outing in a Helensburgh vest.

The combined placings of Murray, Lewis and Angus earned them fifth team place.

Not to be outdone by the boys, the girls’ under 11 team of Libby Maclean, Poppy Taylor and Summer Curtis took fourth place in the girls team’ event.

Matthew Gall performed strongly in the U13 two-mile event to take third place in the boys’ race, with Harris Maclean also performing well over this distance.

Molly Ferguson finished eighth in the girls’ U13 event, and in the U15 event Calum Poirier and Jock Cordner ran well – unfortunately there were not enough runners to make up teams in these age groups.

Congratulations to all runners, parents and coaches who travelled to the exposed seafront at Greenock to represent the club.
