Helensburgh Hockey Club are hoping for better luck as two of the three teams prepare for weekend matches after disappointing results last week.

The club’s three teams lost their matches on Saturday, October 28, with the division 1 team first XI falling to a 1 - 5 defeat against Rottenrow, the division 2 team second XI being beaten 1 - 6 to Rottenrow second XI, and their division 4 team third XI losing 0 - 3 to Western fifth XI.

A spokesperson said: “It was a tough weekend for the club, with all three teams in action. All three sides could only manage one half of hockey it seems!

“The first XI were incredibly slow to start and were 5-0 down by around 20 minutes in.

“However, the second half was a different game as they got a goal back early and missed some crucial chances that could have brought the game back to a more respectable score.

“The second XI had an excellent showing in the first half, with the score at 2-1. However, the legs disappeared from the side as Rottenrow ran away with it in the second half.

The third XI were set to play Giffnock 2nd XI at a division 4 home game at Hermitage Academy but this has been postponed and will be rearranged for later in the year as the opposition could not get a team together.
