GORDON Reid made a winning start to his Great Britain glory bid at the World Team Cup in Turkey on Tuesday.

The Helensburgh hero partnered Dahnon Warrd to a straight sets win over the South African duo of Alwande Sikhosana and Evans Maripa in Antalya.

Their 6-0, 6-4 doubles win completed a clean sweep of victories for the Lexus GB World Team Cup men’s team over their South African counterparts on the opening day of the wheelchair equivalent of the Davis Cup and the Billie Jean King Cup.

It followed a pair of epic singles matches, with Alfie Hewett edging out Sikhosana 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 and Ben Bartram digging deep to see off Maripa 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

The trio of wins was the perfect start for Great Britain’s title defence a year to the day since the country’s men’s team and junior team won the 2023 tournament in Vilamoura, Portugal.

The news wasn't so great for the GB quad team, who lost out 2-1 to Australia on Tuesday.

The Great Britain men’s team continue their bid for back-to-back triumphs with their second round-robin fixture against Brazil on Wednesday.

The country's quad, women and junior teams are all in action on Wednesday, against the United States, Brazil and the United States respectively.
