Helensburgh Amateur Athletics Club members were out in force at the Jimmy Irvine 10k in Bellahouston Park in Glasgow recently.

Competing for first home for the club were Jason Bell and Barry Queen, Jason edging it with a superb run. Being very evenly paced made for a tight race with Jason edging the lead in a time of 35:53, which secured him a 15th place finish.

Less than a minute behind but dropping seven places to 22nd was Barry with 36.34, although he was just missed out on the an age group prize, coming fifth in the V40 race.

Harald Halvorson is a name more closely associated with ultra distance events but on this occasion he turned up to made light work of the much shorter 10k course to finish in 56.22.

Louise Brocklesby ran a very strong first 10k, finishing in 46.42.

Carole Barrie also had a 5k to look forward to that evening, but that didn’t deter her from securing a comfortable sub-50 time with 49.44.

Gordon Andrew is generally seen encouraging the club members on their Tuesday speed sessions, but at the Bellahouston event he was putting his sessions into practise as he scored a personal best with 41.34.

Members train on Tuesday night at 7.30pm from the clubhouse in the grounds of the old Hermitage Academy and new members are always welcome.
