Two Helensburgh Amateur Athletics Club youngsters claimed a medals haul at the West District Athletics Championships last week.

Alex Burns and and Robert Court both picked up awards at the competition, held in Kilmarnock in various categories.

Burns competed in four events, winning two golds and a bronze.

On Friday she took gold in the under-20 triple jump in a new personal best of 11.53m and then followed that up with a second gold in the 200m in another new PB of 25.95sec.

Alex returned on Saturday and performed well in tricky weather conditions to take a bronze in the long jump.

She also qualified for the 100m final, but even though she managed to match her PB in strong headwinds she was just outside of the medals.

Court also took to the arena on Saturday in his first championship experience, taking silver in the under-13 boys 3.25kg shot-put.

He threw a new PB of 7.16, just seven centimetres short of the gold medal throw.

Well done Alex and Robert - a good weekend’s work!
