The ladies of the Dumbartonshire Women's Bowling Association gathered at Helensburgh Bowling Club for the Championship Finals with a number of Helensburgh and Lomond rinks returning home as champions. President Mary Cochrane welcomed the finalists from all areas of Dumbartonshire and dedicated the finals to the late president Elizabeth Macleod of Helensburgh Bowling Club.

The players were then joined by the officials for the customary parade around the green, led by a piper.

Some excellent bowling was witnessed by a huge crowd who packed the clubhouse and the terraces around the greens.

Players from local clubs came out very well in the finals when the fours from Garelochhead BC ladies, Jean Anderson, Flo Butterworth, Sylva Waldie and Frances Gracie skip defeated the four from Milngavie BC of Marion Henderson, Ethel Gibbons, Joanne Rutherford and Margaret Robertson skip in a very close game by 17 shots to 13 to lift the trophy.

Two Helensburgh pairs followed this success by winning the double in the pairs competitions.

Mary Robertson and Liz Fraser skip in the two bowl pairs defeated Cathie McEnaney and Renee Bryceland from Greenfaulds BC by 17 shots to 12 whilst Marge Mackenzie and Jill Dacombe skip followed this success in the four ball pairs when they defeated Agnes Smith and May Barr skip, comfortably, by 23 shots to 15 to complete the treble for the local clubs.

In the remaining games Anne Jardine from Renton BC defeated Doreen Faulds from Killermont BC by 21 shots to eight in the Champion of Champions and in the singles competition, Dorothy Heron sealed another victory for the Dumbarton area when she defeated Diana Burke from Auchinloch by 21 shots to 11.

The triples trophy was won Christina Moore, Sally Leeson and Margaret Wightman skip from Milton of Campsie when they overcame Ann King, Sharon McCallum and Margaret Shields Skip from Dumbarton BC by 17 shots to 13.
