Helensburgh Rugby Club got their season off to an ideal start with a 74-10 thumping of local rivals Clydebank in a pre-season friendly at Ardencaple last Saturday.

The game was played over four quarters to let both sides get plenty of playing time before the competitive season starts.

The Grizzlies dominated from start to finish, and defended well throughout, breaking through Bank's defence with great success.

Helensburgh's 2nd XV will be playing Lomond FPs this Saturday to commemorate Lomond's 40th year anniversary. If you are interested in playing please contact the club via their Facebook page.

Burgh's first XV get their competitive season under way on Saturday travelling to Cumbernauld in the Preliminary Round of the BT West Regional Shield.

If Helensburgh are victorious in North Lanarkshire, they would then face the winner of the tie between Garnock and Oban Lorne, and would be away on Saturday, August 26.

The Grizzlies start their BT West Division One campaign away to East Kilbride the following Saturday, September 2.

Helensburgh's ladies' side begin their season with a trip away to Grangemouth later in the month, kicking off their season on Sunday, September 17.
