Helensburgh and Lomond School’s combined rugby sides were in action against Jordanhill last weekend, with all sides winning.

S1: Jordanhill 7-17 H+LS

With a dry pitch and good overhead conditions all was set for a feast of running rugby.

Throughout the match Lomond Helensburgh played with good continuity and attacked the space at every opportunity.

The S1’s first score came from a scrum against the head and the subsequent phase of play allowed Lomond/Helensburgh to scamper over the line.

The S1’s second try came from a sweeping move.

In return Jordanhill scored a well worked team try.

Lomond Helensburgh started the second half with a bang and following a number of phases the team drove for the line and scored their third try.

The S1’s were now pressing the Jordanhill defence in every phase and this pressure allowed a further two tries before the end of the half.

Tries from Gibson, Lambert, Blackburn and Devenny (x2).

S2: Jordanhill 21-32 H+LS

The S2s enjoyed a rousing victory away to Jordanhill on Saturday.

Playing a development game, with the Lomond and Helensburgh team sharing their playing resources, both sides remained focused on serving up a feast of running rugby.

Arthur Mortlock showed well in the close forward exchanges and Craig Boswell, in spite of only starting his third ever game of rugby, won man of the match for his bullocking runs in attack and brave defensive work.

Findlay Macken and Andrew Jackson Leach both scored a brace of tries. Tries from Lennox (x4), Boswell, Jackson-Leach (x2), Macken (x2).

U16: H+LS 59-17 J’hill

The Lomond/Helensburgh U16 extended their unbeaten run this weekend with a convincing win over Jordanhill School.

In what was pretty much one way traffic Lomond Helensburgh scored five tries before the end of the first half with the boys looking very comfortable with the ball in hand in attack.

Jordanhill managing to get on the score sheet only once to make it 31-5 to the visitors at half-time.

The second half continued with Lomond Helensburgh scoring a further three unanswered tries.

However, with a quarter of the match remaining, Jordanhill mounted a spirited comeback exploiting weaknesses in the Lomond Helensburgh defensive system scoring two tries to the away side’s one.

Special mentions to Fulton and Gray acquitting themselves in making their first appearance for the older age group along with Adkins who also made the step up for the second time.

Tries from Cashmore, McCallum (x3), Murray (x2), Davies (x2) and Chapman.

U18: H+LS 40-10 J’hill

The U18’s took part in a development game with Jordanhill as they were short of players.

With lending the opposition some players it was a chance for everyone to get some game time.

In the end the Lomond/Helensburgh side ran out comfortable winners and it was great to get so many players playing some good rugby.
