Hermitage Academy pupil Oscar del Priore was unable to prevent the Glasgow and West under-16 side rugby team falling to a two-leg defeat to their Edinburgh counterparts last week.

The West side were edged out 29-22 on Wednesday, and the Edinburgh age grade side completed the double on Sunday, winning 40-24 to complete the double.

In the first keenly contested U16 match, East edged out West courtesy of tries by Angus Hoffie, Ryan Daly, Tom Banatvala and Hector Skipworth, which were converted twice by Christian Townsend, with Hoffie dotting down on the line twice.

Despite a 19-point deficit at half-time, the defiant West U16 side put on a gritty display in the second half - with tries from Thomas McGuire, Tomoki Hayashi, Ruarirdh Airlie and Angus Fraser with one conversion by Luke Armstrong - but the plucky side were unable catch their opponents.

But in the second game, scores from Angus Hoffie (2), Callum Anderson, Rhys Tait, Christian Townsend, Douglas Blood helped seal victory for East U16 with conversions by Kieran Clark (2) and Christian Townsend (3).

The response from the West side came from Peter Wallwork, Gabriel Smith, Luke Armstrong and Thomas McGuire, with Luke Armstrong adding the extras.
