THE last sailings of the year aboard the Waverley paddle steamer take place this weekend - and people are being urged not to miss out.

Since the paddle steamer last visited Helensburgh and Kilcreggan in the summer she has been sailing around the coast of the UK and through London’s famous Tower Bridge, taking thousands of passengers on a great day out.

On Saturday, October 15, sailing from Helensburgh at 12.05pm and Kilcreggan pier at 12.35pm, the ship's trip will retrace the steps of her first ever sailing in 1947. Those on board will see mountain panoramas in the autumn colours as they sail along Loch Long towards Arrochar.

Ross Cochrane, Waverley’s captain, said: “This is the last chance to sail aboard the world’s last seagoing paddle steamer in 2016 and celebrate 70 years since her launch. The weekend is set to be very popular so be sure of your place by booking in advance.

The Waverley has on-board facilities to suit everyone including a restraint which serves hot and cold snacks, two bars, heated lounges, steam engines and a souvenir shop.

Tickets start at £17 for adults, children under 18 are half fare and children under five travel free. For more information and to purchase tickets visit www.waverleyexcursions.co.uk or call 0845 130 4647.

Tickets can also be purchased at Argyll Chandlers or on board on the day, subject to availability, but as the last sailing of the year it is expected to be busy so people are advised to book in advance.
