THE bad weather didn't stop the crowds from turning out at the Rhu and Shandon Gala Day.

The processions left from Rhu Marina and was fairly drenched by the time it arrived but with provisions in place the Gala Royals wer crowned under the gazebo.

Royals King Michael Payne, Queen Clara Goodfellow Crichton, Prince Toby Barrie and Princess Leila Dick were crowned by official opener Fiona Baker before the days events kicked off.

As the day progressed so did the weather and by the afternoon it turned out to be a lovely day for the Gala.

The Clan Colquhoun Pipe Band kept the crowds entertained with a couple of sets as they browsed the range of stalls selling various crafts and gifts.

The ever popular petting zoo was held inside and visitors headed in to ay a visit to the various animals and insects throughout the day.

Dougie Cadonas Yankee Flier was a "massive success" and he is thanked for all his help.

The biggest story of the day came from the Helensburgh Heart Start stall, which was there on the day offering defib awareness training, doing a little CPR and allowing people to see the defibs up close.

The gala committee had already donated £500 towards buying a community defib for Rhu and a combination of donations on the day and the money raised from the photo booth, from OMG booths, all went towards it.

The success means that the community can now afford a defibrillator and are just looking for the funds to buy the housing required for it.

Gordon Black, from the Rhu and Shandon Gala organising committee, said: "All in all it was a popular day with family races, tug of war and the ever present and wonderful dog show.

"Well done to the Rhu Inn team who retained the tug of war trophy and to the winner of the dog show best in show!

"Huge thanks to all who helped before, during and after the big day. Any willing volunteers that would like to join the committee are asked to get in touch via Facebook."
