FAMILIES in Helensburgh had a rare afternoon on Saturday with a community event at James Street Park.

The weather was kind and the sun shone brightly and there were a host of activities on show to keep everyone entertained.

On the day there was a tea tent with refreshments plus music and fun activities for the children, including bouncy castle, smash a plate with Helensburgh Hockey club and other garden games.

But there was a serious message behind all the fun activities and the message was- Have your say on the future of James Street park.

There are proposals to redevelop the park and Rachel Bailey, of Rachel Bailey Garden Design, has designed and drawn up some plans on what it could look like in the future.

On the day Rachel was on hand to answer questions from members of the public and residents were encouraged to provide input and feedback.

One of the event organisers Elizabeth Lambert said: "The event went really well and in the afternoon we had around 150 people come along.

"We'd worried about the event with the forecast for rain and snow and you just never know what it's going to be like on the day in Helensburgh.

"But the feedback we got was really positive and now it's a case of collating all the information and proceeding from there."

Elizabeth would especially like to thank the East Side Garage who kindly provided electricity to enable the bouncy castle to go up.
