FOLK legend Jimmie Macgregor is staging a special evening of music and chat aboard the Maid of the Loch on Saturday, August 6, in aid of the vessel’s restoration fund.

Called Jimmie Macgregor’s Gathering on Songs, Stories and Famous Folk, the evening will use plenty of material from his career of over 60 years.

It will include anecdotes of his time as musical partner to the late Robin Hall on BBC TV to championing the West Highland Way, to meeting film and rock stars.

John Beveridge, director of the Loch Lomond Steamship Company (LLSC), said: “We are delighted to have this opportunity to hear some of the songs and stories from a true Scottish legend.

“Jimmie has been a real supporter of the Maid of the Loch since our charity was formed, and we are most grateful to him for staging his show in aid of the Maid’s funds.”

Tickets, priced £15 (includes a glass of wine) are available at maidoftheloch.org

The Heritage Lottery Fund have supported LLSC’s plan to return the Maid of the Loch to steam operation in 2018 and have promised a further £3.8 million if the charity can raise the other £1.7m in the £5.5m project.

The Maid is moored at Balloch Pier on Loch Lomond as a static visitor attraction, open to the public every day until September.
