A HELENSBURGH man has been fined a total of £425 for repeatedly shouting and swearing at his neighbours and breaching a bail condition.

Craig Edwards, 41, of Ben Bouie Drive, appeared in court for sentencing on February 9 after pleading guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner last September 1.

Edwards had also pleaded guilty at a previous hearing to breaching bail by conducting himself in a disorderly manner within his flat and shouting and swearing at a man living upstairs.

Sentence was deferred until February 9 for the court to obtain reports from a social worker and a psychiatrist – but both the sheriff and Edwards’ solicitor said the content of the reports didn’t make the sentencing options any clearer.

Sheriff Simon Pender noted that the psychiatric report did not conclude Edwards was suffering from a mental disorder.

But Edwards’ solicitor, Judith Reid, said: “That remains at odds with his behaviour and what his family members are experiencing.

“The way he is described in the social work report is extremely accurate. It’s clear he has very specific issues.”

Sheriff Pender replied: “It may be that his family doesn’t accept the report and that the reason for his behaviour is not some underlying condition.

“But the doctor is plain – there must be some other reason for his behaviour.”

Ms Reid asked the court to consider bringing an end to the matter that day “in a pragmatic manner”.

Sheriff Pender imposed fines of £225 for the original offence and £200 for the bail breach.
