Here's how we reported the story on March 29, 2007...

SCHOOL pupils served up a treat fit for our national team recently.

Youngsters from Rhu Primary went to the prestigious Cameron House Hotel on Loch Lomondside as part of an initiative to promote healthy eating.

The Primary 5 pupils had lessons with the hotel’s Executive Chef Simon Whitley as part of the ‘Chefs Adopt a School’ project run by the Academy of Culinary Arts.

The youngsters were shown round the facilities before being given the chance to work with real-life chefs.

But the children were given a surprise when they helped lay out the buffet, including dishes they helped chefs prepare for VIP visitors.

Youngsters were taken aback to find that the VIPs were the Scotland football squad, at the hotel for a training retreat.

Class teacher Fiona Hughes told the Advertiser: “The VIPs were the Scotland football team and the kids just about exploded. They were absolutely delighted and were allowed to sit and talk to them and get a few autographs.

“It was a wonderful experience for them and Simon Whitley was superb.”
