CARDROSS Primary’s biggest stage show ever was a roaring success as the school became one of the first in Scotland to perform Disney’s The Lion King.

Teachers pounced on the chance to secure coveted rights to perform the show, based on the 1994 Disney Classic – which has since become a smash-hit Broadway and West End musical.

Families flocked to see pupils bring characters including Nala, Timon, Pumba and Simba to life on stage, and the cast – all from primaries 4-7 – didn’t disappoint as they belted out timeless Tim Rice and Sir Elton John numbers such as Can You Feel The Love Tonight, Circle Of Life and Hakuna Matata.

But the entire school was involved in producing the performance – whether make-up, lighting, sound, scenery or the fantastic costumes.

Elspeth Davis, head teacher, told the Advertiser: “The buzz around school in recent weeks has resembled an entertainment production company; from show logo and programme production to face painting, set-design, costumes and scenery, and everything else in between.

“It’s not only been a fabulous show, it’s been a terrific period of learning for each pupil.

“A huge range of skills have been developed in such diverse areas.”

The pupils will see similar skills in action when they visit the Theatre Royal in May for a Scottish Opera Children’s Unwrapped performance of La Boheme, and their new skills were on show for all to see with three near sell-out performances of The Lion King – two evening shows and a matinee.

Ms Davis added: “We are so proud of everyone involved in this production.

“Our children never cease to amaze us with the talent they have and we are delighted that everyone enjoyed our efforts.”
