FAMILIES across Helensburgh and Lomond have had an egg-cellent Easter weekend with a variety of events to keep all ages entertained taking place.

Ardardan Estate, Geilston Gardens and The Argyll and Bute Third Sector Interface with Alzheimer Scotland all held their Easter Eggstravaganza events recently.

Young Easter eggs-plorers didn’t let mixed weather put them off as they made their way to Geilston Gardens in Cardross over the weekend to take part in their Easter egg hunt.

More than 250 children took part in the hunt themed "Who lives at Geilston?" and followed clues around the garden to places where different kinds of wildlife lived, from toads to damselflies to buzzards.

Children and parents collected their maps, followed the clues and solved the puzzles to claim their chocolate reward.

Anita Gaw, senior assistant at Geilston, said: “The Easter hunt has gone really well, it’s been an excellent weekend.

“We are delighted with the number of children who have taken part despite the mixed weather which we were worried might put people off.

“All the children have loved it and really enjoyed themselves.

“They were able to go and enjoy the playground when the hunt was over and make a day out of it.”

At Ardardan youngsters enjoyed outdoor fun with crafts in the marquee all weekend. Also set up to keep the youngsters busy was a gardening station where the little ones could pot their sweet peas before tossing the welly, creating Easter sand art and visiting the lambs.

A popular addition with the children was the bouncy castle and with other activities set up the children were entertained all day.

With Ardardan homebred highland beef burgers on the barbecue the adults were kept happy too.

Ardardan sponsors Argyll and Bute Netball Team, so some of the girls stopped by over the holidays to show off their skills and inspire the young ones.

The community event at the Helensburgh Dementia Resource Centre saw people of all ages get involved with the activities including a tombola, guess the name of the bunny competition, a kiddies craft corner and an Easter Bonnet competition.

The Easter Bonnet competition saw four children’s prizes go to Luis, Oliver, Fraser and Jazmin and the overall prize for the best Easter Bonnet went to Susan Browne.

Alison Gildea of Argyll and Bute TSI, said: “It was a brilliant Community Event.

“It was great to see people of all ages get together to have an afternoon of fun.

“Well done to all those who brought along their Easter Bonnets and a big thank you to everyone who attended and to all the volunteers who helped us.”

The event raised £141.62 which will be put towards a summer outing for the joint groups.
