PAINTINGS by two Lomond School pupils were recently selected for the Scottish Schools Art Exhibition at the prestigious Caledonian Club in London.

Zoe Burden and Miranda Johnson, who are both in Senior 6 year at the school, were selected for the Belgravia club’s exhibition by the school’s joint heads of art, Lynne Jack and Deborah Aitken.

They said: “We have a number of pupils who are highly talented artists. We were invited by the Caledonian Club to submit two paintings for consideration for the exhibition, and were delighted that both Miranda’s and Zoe’s paintings were put on show.

“To be able to showcase their talent to a London audience has been a great experience for them.”

The Caledonian Club hosted the exhibition and put on a private view for its members, which was extremely well attended.

Members were unanimous in their praise of the artwork, and a representative from Lyon & Turnbull auctioneers was on hand to discuss all the artworks exhibited.

Meanwhile, another Lomond School pupil recently won a national art award at one of Scotland’s most prestigious schools’ art competitions.

Tom Richardson collected his award at a prestigious ceremony at the Royal Scottish Academy on The Mound in Edinburgh.

He was awarded a New Entrant award, given to a pupil in a school which has not previously entered, or has not entered in the last five years.

The Friends of the RSA Schools Art Awards are organised with the explicit aim of encouraging young artists.

They feature several age categories, and, while they have no theme, place an emphasis on skills of technique, observation and interpretation.

Johanna Urquhart, principal of Lomond School, said: “I’m delighted by this richly deserved accolade for Tom.”
