PUPILS showcased their creativity at the Rotary Club of Helensburgh’s annual Young Photographer competition.

The youngsters attended the last meeting of the season of the Helensburgh Photographic Club, which also held its annual prizegiving and exhibition.

At the ceremony chairman of the club, Neil Ross, welcomed guests and gave a brief summary of the club’s activities before presenting the prizes.

There were seven trophies on offer for members of the club with Raymond Gargaro winning three, and Neil winning three.

The overall photographer of the year award went to Neil, as he had more points in overall competitions.

Members then enjoyed a light supper and inspected the work of the young photographers and club members.

Neil and former member David Bullough were thanked for their expertise in judging the work of the many candidates who each submitted groups of three photographs on the subject of “Reflections”.

Organiser Adam Muggoch, the club’s youth services convener, said: “There was a highly varied range of subjects chosen, but all showed a truly creative approach and imaginative interpretation of the topic, with a tremendously high standard being exhibited by all the entries.”

Medal winners in three age categories were awarded on the night. In the junior section, ages 7-10 years the gold medal was awarded to Shannon Rosenburgh from Cardross Primary School.

The silver medal prize was won by Ruby McKerron of Luss Primary School and the bronze was awarded to Orla Greig of St Joseph’s Primary School.

The intermediate category featured entries from children aged 11-13 years.

The gold medal went to Rachel Brown of Cardross Primary School, the silver was awarded to Robbie Devenny of Kilcreggan Primary School and the bronze was won by Alistair McCartney of Lomond School.

Those aged 14-17 competed in the senior section where Hermitage Academy took the medal haul back. Laura Simkova took the gold medal, the silver was awarded to Emily Huggans and the bronze was won by Morag Cowie.

All the entrants received a participation certificate and the gold medal entries now go forward to the Rotary District 1230 final.

Presenting the medals, rotary junior vice-president Mike Jane said: “The judges were tremendously impressed by the overall high quality of the work which made choosing the winners an extremely difficult task.

“It is a credit to all the young people who took part that the competition was so close. Congratulations are due to everyone who took part.”

Sarah Cutler-Collins of Lomond School was awarded the Helensburgh Camera Club President’s Prize for the best overall image.
