VISITORS to John Logie Baird Primary School were taken on a culinary tour of the world at a recent festival.

Over 100 families grasped the chance to try something new and made their way to the school on Friday, June 16 for the International Homecooked Food Festival, run by the Parent Council.

Guests had the chance to sample food ranging from the Oceanic Island Fiji, to the South African country of Pakistan. Food from Poland, the Czech Republic and Thailand also featured.

The festival also featured activities to keep all ages busy while touring the stalls. There were activities for children including arts and crafts, face paints, and tattoos. The MOD boat attended and children burned off their energy in the bouncy castle all afternoon.

The raffle proved popular with a number of prizes up for grabs from Babcock, Angus and Amelia photography, Abstract Beauty, Kayleigh Powney photography , Glasgow science centre, Pandamonium soft play, Rosslea hall hotel and two hampers from the parents.

The festival raised over £1,000 which will be put towards purchasing new playground equipment for the school.

A spokeswoman for the parent council, said: "The food was fantastic from our homecooked stalls and went down a storm, I think all in all the food was the pinnacle of the day."

Tammie Heenan, chair, and the Parent Council extend their thanks to all the families of the homecooked stalls who helped make the event the "huge success it was."

They thanked everyone who made the festival of food and culture happen, with special thanks to the school and the primary seven class and teacher.

Although another event is not yet planned, the parent council haven't ruled out running another International Homecooked Food Festival.
