THERE was plenty of car booty to plunder for bargain hunters at Hermitage Academy on Saturday.

Organised by the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), the indoor car boot sale raised almost £500 which will be reinvested back into supporting the school activities.

A constant stream of visitors browsed more than 80 stalls selling goods from arts and crafts to books, toys and tasty treats.

Hannah Sutherland, a physics teacher at the Helensburgh school, joined forces with mum Elizabeth to put on a cake and tea stall, with the proceeds going to the new S1 astronomy club.

Local guitar and ukulele teacher Chip Charters provided some musical accompaniment, and is also set to join the line-up for the PTA Christmas craft fair on Saturday, November 11.

Marie Harvey, chairwoman of the PTA,said: “Thank you to everyone who made it along on Saturday.

“The car boot sale is an important part of our community diary. Not only is it accessible for everyone for all ages, it’s also a great opportunity to get out and socialise even when it’s raining”.

Michele Michie, vice-chairwoman, added: “The PTA also supports many local charities too, and this month was the turn for Oxfam with many stall holders donating a large quantity of items to be sold on in their shops.”
