WORK to refurbish the Kilmahew Fountain in Dumbarton’s Levengrove Park will begin shortly.
As part of the wider, Lottery-funded £3.7million restoration of Levengrove Park, the fountain will be refurbished and brought back to working order and it will be one of the centrepieces of the overall restoration project.
Visitors to the park will shortly notice work taking place at the fountain site.
The £3.7m investment includes a £2.8m grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and almost £1m from West Dunbartonshire Council.
It will allow the many historic features within the Victorian park to be restored to their former glory, along with the building of a new pavilion with cafe and revamped play areas.
Other work planned includes enhancing Shiers Well and St Serf’s Church and recreating the original main entrance.
Paths will also be upgraded and lights installed between the main entrance and pavilion.
Anyone with stories or pictures of the park to share can contact Sandra Anton, the council’s Community Engagement Ranger, on 01389 772090 or via email at sandra.anton@west-dunbarton.gov.uk.
