THE first public consultation on potential options for the redevelopment of Kilcreggan's village centre will be held next month.

The event, being organised by the Rosneath Peninsula West Community Development Trust, takes place at Cove Burgh Hall on Saturday, February 24 from 2-4pm.

In a statement on Facebook the Trust said: “We are really keen to take on board the views of the whole community so please come along and share your ideas and thoughts.

“We will present some high level ideas on the day but want to be clear that these will be just to encourage discussion and debate on the day.”

A second, similar, event will take place on Saturday, March 24, also from 2-4pm.

In December the trust announced it had secured grants from the National Lottery's Awards for All scheme and from Argyll and Bute Council to fund the first phase of the project, the key priority of the trust's community action plan.

The action plan refers to several projects that would contribute to this, such as marine access, improvements to the foreshore and the improvement of pavements.

It also refers to an overarching desire to improve the general appearance of the village and promote tourism.

A spokesman for the Trust added: “Rather than tackle these in a piecemeal fashion the Trust took the view it would be more effective deliver the community’s needs and aspirations via a more comprehensive village project that encompassed all these components.

“The overall aim of the village redevelopment project is to make people who live here want to stay here, people who visit here to want to move here and facilitate economic growth. This is key to ensuring the long-term sustainability of local amenities and services such as the village primary school, health facilities and local businesses.”
