Here's how we reported on the Advertiser's fundraising efforts on April, 17 2003

***********

THIS POOR rodent has done nothing wrong but he’s behind bars — and the Advertiser needs YOU to end this mousecarriage of justice!

Miles the Macmillan Mouse was locked up at Dumbarton Police Station last week and we need to raise a mile of coins to buy back his freedom.

The Advertiser has been campaigning to raise much needed cash for Macmillan’s Lomond and Clyde Carers Appeal and this is a fantastic way for anybody to get involved.

The Macmillan Miles challenge runs from May 18 to 25 and all we are asking you to do is a sponsored mile of anything.

Groups, schools or individuals can all take part and the money raised will help people who are suffering from cancer in this area.

Evelyn Nicoll, Macmillan fund-raising manager, said: “Stretch yourself to cover a mile in whatever way you chose and get sponsored for it! It can be as simple as you like or as hard as you like or as wacky as you like.

“Why not cycle to work if you normally drive? Nothing is too unusual.

“You can hop a mile, lay a mile of coins or do a mile of ironing? You could even go out for dinner with your friends and eat a mile of spaghetti!” She added: “It doesn’t even need to be strictly within those dates and a token mile would do.”

We are aiming to raise £200,000 to make sure that cancer sufferers get the care that they need. Money raised will help the charity to run this essential carers scheme — giving people with cancer support and help with practical tasks. And most people have family or friends who are affected by this disease. That’s why we think it’s so important for people to help raise money — cancer touches everybody’s life.
