MUMS and their babies got a lesson in nappy etiquette recently. Real nappy aficianado Alison Haughton visited Goggle Box in Helensburgh during Real Nappy Week, to spread the word about the benefits of reusable nappies.

Around three billion disposable nappies are thrown away in the UK each year, with around 690,000 tonnes ending up on landfill sites where they generate greenhouse gases.

But Alison was on hand to provide colourful samples of reusable nappies to show mums and dads and was on hand to answer any questions.

She told the Advertiser: “You can’t just get reusable nappies up in the supermarket, so it’s important to let people know what’s out there.

“Reusable nappies have come a long way, they’re not just white towelling done up with a safety pin like in the past. you can get them in colours and patterns with poppers to keep them fastened.

Reusable nappies produce less rubbish and are better for the environment”, she added.

Alison also highlighted the potential for parents to save thousands of pounds by using reusable nappies.

She said: “To kit your baby out in disposable nappies costs around £12,000.

“It’s about £500 for reusable, including washing powder, and electricity.”
