PUPILS at Colgrain Primary School in Helensburgh were celebrating after they ran out victorious in the Martha Murdock Christian Aid five-a-side football tournament.

Delighted primary pupils from Colgrain (pictured holding the winning cup and shield) finished ahead of nine other schools in the area at the competition, which was held at Hermitage Academy’s new sports ground last Monday.

The other schools who took part in the event Arrochar, Cardross, Garelochhead, Hermitage, John Logie Baird, Lomond, Rhu, Rosneath and St Joseph’s Primary School

Around £250 was raised at the tournament which also included sales of tea, soup, juice, crisps, Fair Trade chocolate and a tombola.

At the end of the game, teams were presented with medals by Billy Murdock and the manager of Ardencaple Boys’ Club.

Billy organised the event along with Jack Diamond.

They provided the medals and donated footballs for the tombola stall.

The Helensburgh Christian Aid Committee thanked primary schools and teachers who encouraged the children to take part and described the event as a “lovely evening” with a fantastic support from parents and teachers who all turned up to watch the children.
