EVERYONE, it seems, is enjoying the current spell of lovely weather in Helensburgh – though it led to one or two unexpected frowns at Hermitage Primary School's spring fair on Friday evening.

So warm were the conditions that volunteers had to make a quick dash to the shop for back-up supplies of ice-cream after their original supply ran out thanks to fair-goers eager for a cooling snack.

Children, parents and teachers had an excellent evening at the event – and managed to raise an amazing £2,600 for the school.

The annual fund-raiser is organised by the school’s parent council.

The group’s fundraising co-ordinator, Angela Fleming, said: “It was excellent.

“It was so busy, there was just so many families.

“It was still busy at half seven when it was finishing.

"Usually the crowds start going down but people were still enjoying themselves.”

Emergency services from the area went along to tell children and adults more about their jobs and the town's Scottish Fire and Rescue team gave the youngsters a chance to use the hose.

Two bouncy castles, face painting, craft tables and the sunshine kept everyone happy as parents and volunteers helped at the barbecue.

“The kids really seemed to enjoy it,” Angela added.

“Everyone just seemed to pull together and got involved.

“Thank you to each of the parents, friends, family, teachers, school staff and pupils who gave their time and skills on stalls, labelled all the tombola items and helped with set up and clear up.

“This amazing event would not have been possible without each and every one of you who donated, volunteered and turned out to support our school.”

The money will be used to fund learner programmes, school Christmas parties and trips.
