TRAINS to and from Helensburgh Central were suspended on Thursday morning as Storm Hector caused major disruption across the ScotRail network.

The company cancelled all services on the Helensburgh-Edinburgh route due to problems with the overhead electric wires near Helensburgh and a fallen tree leaning on the overhead equipment at Garrowhill in the east end of Glasgow.

Trains on the Balloch-Airdrie route were suspended.

And at 8am ScotRail announced that due to further reports of overhead wire problems at Partick and Dalreoch, all trains between Partick and Dumbarton Central were suspended.

On ScotRail's Twitter feed the company said: "Chainsaw gangs and overhead line teams are responding to reports as they come in to our Integrated Control, to get trains moving again ASAP."

National Rail Enquiries' Twitter feed announced shortly after 8am that no trains would run between Helensburgh and Partick until at least 12 noon.

Valid ScotRail tickets and smartcards were being accepted on First in Glasgow's 1B Helensburgh-Glasgow bus route.
